Sebouh,
Good question. On the basis of the plot attached from Takashi, I think that brem losses are very small
in HPS and can basically be ignored. I would therefore guess that the energy losses of electrons are close enough to that of muons so that there is nothing to be gained from a more correct treatment. The mass resolutions should be very, very similar. The important effect of bremsstrahlung is to very rarely radiate a large amount. This will translate into a very small efficiency loss for electrons (they'll fail the fit), but not a practical change in mass resolution. I think.

Here's what Takashi wrote about the plot:
Attached is the energy spectrum of 2.2 GeV e- that came out of Si layer. The energy loss is much smaller than the loss expected from the radiation length. The very few electrons that radiate high energy photon will skew the energy spectrum and yield much higher average energy loss. If I take an average energy loss of all the electrons, the energy loss is consistent with the radiation length.

Subject: reconstruction: does it account for multiple scattering/brehmstralung?

I have been looking at the resolution of the SVT for reconstructing the A' invariant mass for muon events, and I have a question about the reconstruction software's internal workings: does it by default take into account energy loss and multiple scattering due to brehmstralung? I assume if so, then it is calibrated under the assumption that the particle is an electron. If this is the case, is there a way to either disable this feature or (better yet) have it make the assumption that the particle is a muon (so that I can get a more accurate measurement of the A' mass resolution)?

thanks
