JLab Scientific Computing Users,

Note that the central computing outage of the /home fileserver affects the ifarm and farm computing systems, as central /home is also the home directory for farm users.  Please plan for this necessary outage starting at 4pm on Friday, in conjunction with the power reconfiguration in the F112 Data Center on Saturday June 27.  Systems and services are expected to be restored on Saturday evening.

Note that during the outage /cache will be emptied, for relocation to the upgraded Lustre 2 filesystem; files needed upon startup can be re-cached from tape.

Regards,
  Sandy Philpott
  JLab Scientific Computing

June 17 Briefs Excerpts:

Central File Server Outage Set for Friday, June 26, 6-10 p.m.

There will be an outage of the /home (J: drive) file server on Friday, June 26, 6-10 p.m. During this time, this important file server will be undergoing a major operating system upgrade, and many services may be unavailable. In particular, access to all of the login servers, including login, jlabl*, publ*, and other login servers will have issues while the home directory is offline. Note that CUE (Common User Environment) level 1 Linux systems may need to be rebooted after the outage to clear up any lingering mount issues, so plan your work accordingly. If you have any comments or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at [log in to unmask] or x7155.
