Andy, please help me think through DM-2136. I started writing up about query types:

and that reminded me we need to deal with things like SQL APIs for various async query related aspects (not only designing the APIs and but also implementing them). 

So have a look, and maybe let’s go through this epic together? I added more SPs to it. It’d be good to have async queries nicely working once we are done with this epic
