"-s /var/run/xrootd" is the default in the systemd service script, I'll have to change this on the systemd side with an override file it seems.

ExecStart=/usr/bin/xrootd -l /var/log/xrootd/xrootd.log -c /etc/xrootd/xrootd-%i.cfg -k fifo -s /var/run/xrootd/xrootd-%i.pid -n %i
