Yes, I'd like to close it, too :) The workaround using condition variables (instead of custom written semaphores) has proved to be stable ... it has been running without crashes for a month now at a site where they saw it crash daily before. I could live with run-time configuration that can be flipped from the caching proxy initialization code. But its' going to make code there a bit messier.
