Dear HPS Software Group,
As we discussed in our software meeting yesterday, I would like to create a standardized version of the hps-dst package.
The plan as proposed was:
ROOT 5.34.36 (default “PRO” version at JLab, but outdated otherwise)
GCC 4.8.5 (default on RHEL 7)
Python 2.7 (default on RHEL 7)
This will be the default version installed in /u/group/hps/hps_soft. It appears that the installed version of root_numpy is compatible with this choice, but I am not able to fully check this.
I have setup the login for user “hps” to default to these setting, which I think is already the case mostly. (except a env var LCIO to point to the correct place.)
The install is in: /home/hps/hps_soft/hps-dst
NOTES:
- This choice is NOT compatible with the new trunk of LCIO, only with tag 1681, which we patched for an error in SIO back in june 2016.
- The latest LCIO has our patch included and is now on GitHub at: https://github.com/iLCSoft/LCIO This version requires ROOT 6.04 or later.
- The ROOT 6.08 installed at JLab requires GCC 5.2.0, so users would need to recompile ALL their user code to switch to this.
- IF there is a strong desire or need to use ROOT 6, I can make a version for ROOT 6 users. You would need to run a separate setup script to switch to this version. Please let me know if this is important for you.
- IF we also need other versions, or still need RHEL6 versions, let me know that as well, and we’ll figure out how to support this.
