I misunderstood your original post ;-) So you are reading from a data server and a socket error kicks in, you disabled the read recovery and instead you are using your own logic in CMSSW, right? Could you give me a log with what the client is actually doing in CMSSW in order to recover from the socket error? Could you check what is the URL you are using for recovery.
