Hello Kyle,

There are built-in tools within GEANT itself which allow geometry overlaps to be checked.

For instance:

> slic -g ./mygeom.lcdd -n

>/geometry/test/run

Hello,

I was able to get it working well enough to see that there was no overlap using the wireframe display option and orthographic projections, so I was able to accomplish my goal. The current geometry tests are not sophisticated enough to really necessitate a computer-driven intersection test, though this may be useful in the future.

Thanks,

Kyle

Hello Kyle,

If you are using the method: LCDD -> GDML -> ROOT , which is probably the script you are talking about, then you can check the overlaps also using the ROOT geometry tools.

Please let me know if you still have an issue checking for overlaps.

Best,

Maurik

Hello Alessandra,

Thanks for the response. I couldn't the SLIC method to work. I can't install SLIC, due to compatibility issues, on my local machine and it was struggling to use X11 forwarding from a machine where it does work. However, I found a Python script on the same page that I was able to get to render, so it fixed my problem anyway. This properly shows the vacuum box.

Thanks,

Kyle

Hi Kyle,
I way I use to inspect geometries is to view the lcdd file through slic. If it still works, here there are some explanations about how to do it:
https://confluence.slac.stanford.edu/display/hpsg/Detector+Geometry+Overview

maybe it's too coarse to your needs, but usually gives helpful information. I don't remember about the vacuum box being displayed by defauls but if not it can be switched on in the rendering.
Hope this helps, cheers

Hello,
I need to display the complete HPS geometry to check for overlap in
components.

I know how to convert a geometry to heprep and view it in JAS3, but this
only displays a portion. It excludes the vacuum box, which is the relevant
piece in this case. Does anyone know how this may be done?

Thanks.

Kyle
