@akurov : yes xrdcp should try ipv4 if a connection with ipv6 failed, however if the time elapsed while trying to connect with ipv6 exceeds the connection window then xrdcp gives up and the retry mechanism kicks in.

Could you try to use a bigger connection window? For testing you could try something like:
export XRD_CONNECTIONWINDOW=600
