Hi Andy,

out of curiosity seeing this thread - do xrd tools support reading from
stdin?
I have just been thinking, that something like
  tar -cJfv - dirwmanysmallfiles/ | xrdcp -
root://foo.site:1094/path/arch.tar.xz
could be useful?
