Hi guys,

Actually xrdcp does support stdin and stdout, you just do:

cat Somefile.txt | xrdcp - root://hostname//path/to/the/file.out

Cheers,
Michal

Hi Andy, Thomas,
first to clarify: in fact I was *NOT* interested in a local copy, but for brevity I had dropped the 'root://server1' shebang in my initial description of the problem. The problem is a bit moot by now though since I found that using the recursive option in xrdcp does the trick for me. But I agree with Thomas, having this kind of feature - stdin stream support - would be pretty useful.
Best,
-Stephan

Hi Andy,

out of curiosity seeing this thread - do xrd tools support reading from
stdin?
I have just been thinking, that something like
  tar -cJfv - dirwmanysmallfiles/ | xrdcp -
root://foo.site:1094/path/arch.tar.xz
could be useful?

Cheers,
  Thomas
