@XMol - The Xrootd client does not support subject alternative names until the upcoming 4.9.0 release. The work is done and committed - just not released yet. Given the rate of turnover of old clients and software, it'll likely be many years before you can assume this version is available at all clients. For CMS - probably the start of LHC Run3 or later.
