The question of adding a new bucket is relatively new. At least Andy and I don't know the answer for now, and it was one of the reasons I initially chose to piggy back to an existing bucket.

But yes, it would be very nice to understand adding a new bucket since it gives us a lot more flexibility.

    In general, it looks like the buckets are handled as a linked list.  I don't see any code that would leak a bucket in the list if there's an unknown type.
    
    I mean, it seems like we're solving this particular case with a protocol version change -- still, would be good to know if we can introduce new buckets without version changes.
