Dear HPS Software people,

I just discussed this with Rafo, and we agreed to ask all of you the following for the “hps” account at JLab:

Would it be OK if we make the following modifications:
Switch the shell to “bash”
Use a modern root version: /apps/root/6.12.06
Use a modern Python version: /apps/python/PRO (Currently Python 3.4.3)

These changes would benefit the hps-dst, which does not build against root5, which is probably also true for hpstr. In addition, “bash” is more manageable with scripts (but that is a biassed statement :-)

Now, it should be that the “hps” account is used for data processing and MC only, in which case the suggested changes will be beneficial. There may be use cases that we are not aware of, so please let us know, for each/all of the above suggested changes.

Thanks!

Best,
	Maurik
