The use case was the following we had a studet that had a couple of O(100MB) files the same files for thousands of jobs. Our xrootd doors were configured to use http and we could curl wget them.

wget -d -c -v http://gftp-2.t2.ucsd.edu:1094/store/user/smay/ttH/tarballs/package_ttH_Babies_RunIIv4.4_ttZ.tar.gz 

However this was destryoing hadoop since this was running all over US T2 so we wanted to profit from the squid caches at all sites but the squid was alwauys requesting the file from scratch. The header Cache-control is it on the origin or in the client?
