@bbockelm One more thing. It's just a matter of time that a host certificate will be stolen and we will be forced to apply timely crls on the client side. So, I have to make sure that we can actually do it in a trivial way (i.e. not changing vast amounts of code). It's all doable and relatively easily portable backwards. As an aside, most browsers don't do so well on that point from what I've read in stackoverflow.
