Ah, here we go. Running xrootd manually with LD_DEBUG=all reveals:

/usr/lib64/libXrdSecgsiVOMS-4.so: error: symbol lookup error: undefined symbol: _ZN18XrdCryptoX509Chain5BeginEv (fatal)

So we miss XrdCryptoX509Chain::Begin() somehow.
