Above it said they use pfc.ram 7G ... 7G/64M = 112 ... so they only have space for 112 blocks in RAM. So, if the vread comes into an indle cache, only first 112 blocks will be requested individually and cached, the rest will be issued as a single remote vread. Under any kind of load, I'd expect the cache to be firmly in a pass-through (i.e., no-cache) mode.

Has anybody tested access to ceph via xrootd independently (i.e, without cache) to see the read rates it can do for plain reads and vreads of relevant sizes?
