I do not know the details of the interaction between root and LHCb applications, though I suspect that as you suggest, only part of the data is read for most analysis jobs.

In the case of these test jobs, however the whole of the file is scanned and the list of paths where some data is stored is dumped in a log file (happily discarded for this test). This is the simplest / most trivial working example we have to reproduce the error seen in user jobs at RAL. We could reproduce the issue with a more complicated job also I suppose.

Did I understand from your previous comment (#1259 (comment)) that development on the CEPH side is needed?
