> As a possible long-term consideration: would it make sense to allow a redirection response to include some kind of token that the client should present on login?

I was also thinking about the possibility of sharing opaque data between these TCP connections. The client just forwards the original dark data onto the second connection. That would probably also solve the issue, but I imagine there would be a host of reasons why this idea might not be desirable inside the xrootd client. I had not thought of the possibility Paul mentions, though. I believe the protocol does indeed support a slog for a token, so this might indeed be a feasible route.

Thanks Paul for expanding my original gnomic statement into an understandable narrative (smile).
