Hi Heiko,

I am not saying cmsd.log is a quick way to check the health of the cluster. Xrdmapc or xrdfs are the right tools. But the info in cmsd.log can help you figure out why xrdmapc and xrdfs aren't telling your all the data nodes. A quick way is to restart cmsd on the redirector. Within a few minutes, all data servers should register themselves to cmsd, and the cmsd.log will reflect that.

Data nodes that do not show up in cmsd.log will obviously won't show up in xrdmapc and xrdfs.

Xrootd cluster uses a subscription model. So the redirector will not view a disappearing data node as abnormal (except when 50% of the nodes disappear in a short period of time - for example). Assume that the person who setup the cluster has a list of data servers, one can compare that to the output of xrdmapc and xrdfs.

regards,

yes, i know 4.10.0 is old. But it is still operational and we dont need
the bleeding edge features of the new releases.

Also i know that i can retrieve the information from the cmsd.log file,
but it would be more helpful in daily operations to get these via a
command directly without searching the logs.

Ok, to turn the qeustion around:

How can i determine a dead node with xrd tools ?

    Regards

    Heiko
