Okay while I can reproduce this issue on my site dcache, I confirm it is fixed on prometheus.desy.de so presumably it should work if I upgrade .

Regarding username validation, you may be interested to know that in containers (docker/kubernetes) , often there is no user name. The UID is already arbitrary and meaningless (just like atlas053 on a traditional grid site) so there is only a UID with no name.
