Well, I'm not too sure about the lazy load because, if you recall, we do x509_store refreshes to pickup new CA's and CRL's. So, somehow I think OpenSSL reads the whole bloody thing when we reinitialize the store. If you were going to abstract this function it's likely easier to do it now than later when it will likely get encumbered with libcurl specifics. Think about it.
