@jade2k11598 : thank you for reporting this issue, could you please let me know which is the version of XRootD that you are trying to build? Could you provide the steps to reproduce the problem, our standalone xrootd builds do work on OSX for openssl 1.0.2t, 1.1.1l and 3.0.0. My understanding is that you are building xrootd as part of root build, right? On a similar note, could you try to build standalone xrootd, once we have this working we can tackle the build inside of root (you can try building `master` branch)?

Few remarks about openssl support:
- in the latest greatest (meaning `master`) `WITH_OPENSSL3` has been renamed to `ENABLE_OPENSSL3` and is set to `TRUE` by default (so you shouldn't need to set it), it should be also compatible with older versions of openssl
- you also need to provide `OPENSSL_INCLUDE_DIR`, `OPENSSL_SSL_LIBRARY` and `OPENSSL_CRYPTO_LIBRARY` if your openssl installation is at a non standard location
