Huh? Failing example? I've already demonstrated that above (with cmake options)!

Sorry, to be more clear I mean a full end to end minimal failing example that covers the full environment from scratch. Posting the build options that didn't work for you doesn't sufficiently cover the environment nuances. If you don't know how to produce a full environment reproduction script that someone can use to reproduce an example exactly in a macOS VM by running that's okay! and definitely not required (you opened up an Issue with I'm sure is already super appreciated), but they are significantly more useful to make sure that what is being reported is accurate.

And I really don't have anymore time working on this beyond what I've already put in for this. I have other important priorities to work on.

That's understandable. 👍 As you haven't closed the Issue yet though, if

That's why they told me to try to download their master version and see if it builds, which I've confirm that it does.

is sufficient in your mind (which is seems like it is given that you're good to wait on the ROOT team to accept a PR from someone to update to a future release of XRootD that would have the equivalent of the current master branch's HEAD on it) then perhaps you could close the Issue as it seems to be resolved.

If you feel that there are additional improvements that would make things better in the future, e.g.

I'd recommend to use find_package or for newer cmake versions FindOpenSSL (it basically uses find_package underneath it) to set openssl include/libs location because it will likely order those includes correctly.

please open a new Issue that details that. It would only take a few minutes of your time and I know from the projects that I maintain would be appreciated by the XRootD team for future development. 👍
