I have also found a similar issue using a distributed xrootd system. Using the `ls` command inside `xrdfs` lists the directory properly however using a command such as `gfal-ls` exhibits this same behavior where the xrootd system returns an error or returns 0 without listing anything for a directory but does list a specified file within the directory. I can attach logs if required.
