This reminds me of a similar discussion that happened in Davix. See https://github.com/cern-fts/davix/commit/bfffca06374b666f22084f7209fa5b1a8a9e6371. Depending on where you are building, you may or may not need libuuid to provide the symbols, depending on if the kernel provides them or not. I don't know what XRootD will need, but it might be worth taking a look at the relevant man pages, like `uuid(3)` and `uuid_generate(3)`, and the headers provided by the OS. On Linux, libuuid is usually part of the [util-linux](https://github.com/util-linux/util-linux/tree/master/libuuid) package, but on MacOS the `uuid/uuid.h` header is part of the command line tools, and there is no libuuid.
