I agree, we don't want people to manually load stuff. My suggestion here was with the thought that stacking is overkill since all you need is to provide a custom stat() which is what the stat plugin allows you to do. Doesn't seem like that would be complicated to the point of needing to stack anything.

As far as making it a fatal error, well it depends. That is a rather big change in config behavior and we generally like to avoid that kind of thing. I don't have a feel of how many people have tried stacking but I suspect it's only you as no one else has brought this up.
