@vokac : could you replace xrootd.async on with xrootd.async off, now there are two reasons, first is that xrootd.async on is not a valid option https://xrootd.slac.stanford.edu/doc/dev55/xrd_config.htm#_async, the second is that we recommend enabling xrootd.async only for XCache. I think the xrootd.async on confuses the server and makes him send those very small (64KB) chunks. So please set it to xrootd.async off, give it a try and let us know how it goes! :! -)

P. S.
Regarding the 5.4.2 vs 5.4.3, the reason it works with 5.4.2 is that the client will disable pgread as there is a known bug in the server.
