I'm still using same server 5.4.3 with 4dbd682 and with xrootd.async off there is still stream timeout in the client log https://vokac.web.cern.ch/vokac/tmp/xrootd-client-5.4.3-with-patched-server-and-async-off.log, but behavior seems to be slightly different ... transfer doesn't get completely stuck.
