You start the xrootd server with its hostname xrTxxx.

Once the xrootd server starts with that hostname, the xrootd server remembers and reports to the redirector with that name, xrTxxx.

Then, you can set the hostname to xrDxxx.

This is what I do with my servers. I am not sure though if this is what you want.
