it seems the above is picking macports gcc to build

@cjones051073 Well, I am building in Macports, so GCC is built in Macports as well. If the question is rather why gcc?, then:

  1. Why not? GCC is the best compiler with proper cross-platform support. It works on Apple, even though Apple is pushing its Clang as default choice.
  2. Clang is broken for PPC, so in case of Darwin PPC – GCC is the only choice anyway.
