HI,

In the UK we have several XRootD endpoints forwarding monitoring streams to a listener at a single site.
(Ingesting data from both `xrootd.monitor`, `xrd.report`, `xrootd.mongstream`)

I recently updated the DNS entry (TTL 10min) that the UDP traffic was being sent to, due to moving services one host to another. Only the XRootD instances which were restarted within the next hour then correctly started forwarding traffic to the new IP vs the old one.
Following outbound traffic from non-restarted hosts it was still going to the old IP address.

We would have naively expected to lose ~10min or so of data during this transition, however, we now have to restart all of the services involved.
I've been able to compensate by setting up some forwarding rules in our iptables, but it was unexpected that the traffic didn't start flowing to the new destination within an hour or so of the DNS change.

Best Regards,

Rob
