It seems that your custom compiled version of XRootD is linked without `RPATH` and/or `LD_LIBRARY_PATH` is not set correctly, or the CMake configuration was such that it actually found the OpenSSL from the system and not your custom build of OpenSSL. I recommend trying to build with `RPATH` to avoid the need of setting `LD_LIBRARY_PATH` at runtime. You should try to build your custom OpenSSL with the following CMake options: `-DCMAKE_SKIP_RPATH=OFF -DCMAKE_SKIP_INSTALL_RPATH=OFF -DCMAKE_INSTALL_RPATH='$ORIGIN'` then do the same for XRootD, passing also `-DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH=/opt/openssl-1.1.1n` and check in the configuration log that the correct version of OpenSSL was picked up by CMake.
