Dear all!

As you heard from me or in some meetings, we are transitioning to S3DF.
If you don't care computing, you can discard this email 🙂

  1. Join our slack workspace. if you don't know what it is, ask me 🙂

  2. Enable "coact"
    1. please send a request to enable coact unless you have already done so through the link https://coact.slac.stanford.edu/
    2. Enabling coact also enables your Unix account on S3DF if it is not done so.
    3. You have to send a request, unless you already did, even if you S3DF account has been already enabled.
    4. After your request is approved, wait for a few hours and try to log onto S3DF (how-to log in? keep reading)
  1. Check your unix account is valid
    1. While S3DF uses your Unix account, SDF used Windows account and it's possible that your unix account password has expired.
    2. Try logging onto rhel6-64 ... "ssg [log in to unmask]" ... if this works, your unix account is good to go.
  1. Read our Wiki and learn how/what to do
    1. Our wiki is here: https://NuSlac.github.io/ComputingWiki
    2. Note the disk filesystem is very similar but separate (e.g. your home directory is different)
    3. Do let Kazu know if you want to occupy more than 1TB under /sdf/group/neutrino/$USER space
    4. Do read about computing resources on S3DF and how to request + recommendations on what to request

Happy computing!
Kazu
