Hello again everyone!
Got this question from some of you: what to do if my unix account is expired?
This is detailed in SLAC IT service webpage here:
But in short, as long as you remember your old password, you can reset your password even if it has expired from this link:
Just FYI: I think everyone has a unix account enabled even if you might think you never used it.
If you don't remember your unix password, I would suggest using the same password you set for the Windows account (or the password you set to use SDF for the first time) since it's same by default, I believe.
If you still cannot remember the password, you can submit the IT service desk ticket (find the link from hte IT service webpage, the first link I shared above).

Dear all!
As you heard from me or in some meetings, we are transitioning to S3DF.
If you don't care computing, you can discard this email 🙂
- Join our slack workspace. if you don't know what it is, ask me
🙂
- Enable "coact"
- please send a request to enable coact unless you have already done so through the link
https://coact.slac.stanford.edu/
- Enabling coact also enables your Unix account on S3DF if it is not done so.
- You have to send a request, unless you already did, even if you S3DF account has been already enabled.
- After your request is approved, wait for a few hours and try to log onto S3DF (how-to log in? keep reading)
-
Check your unix account is valid
-
While S3DF uses your Unix account, SDF used Windows account and it's possible that your unix account password has expired.
-
Try logging onto rhel6-64 ... "ssg [log in to unmask]" ... if this works, your unix account is good to go.
-
Read our Wiki and learn how/what to do
-
Our wiki is here:
https://NuSlac.github.io/ComputingWiki
-
Note the disk filesystem is very similar but separate (e.g. your home directory is different)
-
Do let Kazu know if you want to occupy more than 1TB under /sdf/group/neutrino/$USER space
-
Do read about computing resources on S3DF and how to request + recommendations on what to request
Happy computing!
Kazu
