The xrdcp -R is actually broken as designed. We all agree that this is
incorrect behavior. You can always use the Posix preload library with
"cp -r" as long as the source directory is not in xrootd. That should work.

xrdcp -R should to work. I will leave others to answer why it isn't. Another
method is to mount your xrootd storage as a file system on your client,
using xrootdfs. Then you can use cp -r, etc.
