Hi Everyone,
Our next LQS group meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 25, at 1 PM Eastern
time. I wasn't at the meeting last week, and it sounds like there weren't
many people in attendance, so I'm guessing their was no paper discussion.
So let's try again this week to discuss:
http://arxiv.org/abs//0809.2447
"We report the first observation of off-axis neutrino interactions in
the MiniBooNE detector from the NuMI beamline at Fermilab. The
MiniBooNE detector is located 745 m from the NuMI production target,
at 110 mrad angle ($6.3^{\circ}$) with respect to the NuMI beam
axis. Samples of charged current quasi-elastic $\nu_{\mu}$ and $\nu_e$
interactions are analyzed and found to be in agreement with
expectation. This provides a direct verification of the expected pion
and kaon contributions to the neutrino flux and validates the modeling
of the NuMI off-axis beam."
As always, suggestions for interesting papers to discuss are always welcome.
Thanks much,
--Ray
